Servicing & system care

Cool Guys · Practical advice

Look beyond the indoor unit.

The visible indoor unit is only part of a replacement project. A good brief also covers the routes, services and building work needed to support it.

Assess what can be retained

Do not assume existing pipework, wiring, drains, supports or controls can be reused. Ask the survey to identify what needs inspection and what the selected equipment permits. Reuse should be confirmed for the actual installation.

Agree the routes and finish

Discuss visible trunking, ceiling access, wall penetrations, outdoor position and any repairs or decoration afterwards. Clarify which work is included and which needs the landlord, managing agent or another contractor.

Keep future access practical

Plan how filters, drainage components and other service points will be reached. Agree access panels before ceilings are finished. Include removal of old equipment and the relevant waste arrangements in the scope rather than leaving them as an assumption.

Your conversation checklist

  • Existing services to be inspected
  • Proposed routes and visible finishes
  • Builders’ work and electrical responsibilities
  • Future service access and old-equipment removal
