Getting more from your air conditioning
What shapes your running cost?
The four main influences
Target temperature, hours of use, the building and electricity tariff all affect running cost. Outdoor weather, equipment efficiency and condition also matter.
Output is not electricity use
A unit’s heating or cooling capacity is not its electrical input. Do not multiply its advertised output in kW by your tariff to estimate the bill.
Use measured energy where possible
For an identified period, electricity used in kWh multiplied by the applicable unit rate gives the energy charge. Standing charges are separate. Time-of-use tariffs need the usage split across the relevant rates.
Treat app figures carefully
Check whether app energy figures are measured or estimated and which units they cover. Compare similar periods and conditions. We can discuss equipment-specific assumptions without promising a fixed saving.
