Build a clear timeline
Note when the fault occurs, which rooms are affected and whether it happens in heating, cooling or both. Include any displayed fault code and what the system was doing beforehand. A short description is more useful than guessing which component has failed.
Bring previous repairs into the conversation
Share earlier reports, invoices and replaced-part details. Tell us whether the symptoms ever fully disappeared. Separate repeat visits for one unresolved fault from unrelated repairs over several years.
Agree the next step
Ask what diagnosis is needed, what it will cost and what the proposed repair includes. Compare that with replacement only after the likely cause and available options have been assessed. A visit does not guarantee that the fault can be reproduced or repaired immediately.
Your conversation checklist
- Previous repair dates and reports
- Fault code or a safely taken photo
- When the symptoms appear
- Any current warranty documents
